I'd just bought my first flashguns, YongNuo 460-II, before this picture was taken and I'd always used the pop-up flash on my camera. I also purchased the Hotshoe Diaries by Joe Macnally but arrived a day before the shoot so I did not really have the time to read. I was amazed by how much difference flashguns make when used properly compared to pop up flash and how it can produce results close to expensive studio lighting.
I was the model and photographer during the shoot. I used the self timer and had to run back to the sofa and make sure the monocle was in place and every other thing was okay. I had no stand/clamps nor umberallas and diffusers to use so the light had to be bounced off the ceiling. Running back and forth from the camera to the sofa after adjusting the flash and getting the auto- focus right in the dark room was stressful.
Umar and Turai are the first couple in Nigeria and in the light of the events in the polity in the past couple of months, this tells a story.
